The violin has 2 labels. One says Oscar Hermann Seidel with a date of 1883. I can't find any information about an Oscar Hermann Seidel so I'm assuming it is a fictitious name. This label also presents an age conundrum. "Made in Germany" was only required on labels after 1914, yet this has an 1883 date...I would say this label is suspect. The older, probably original label says Joseph Klotz, Mittenwald, 1795(?) indicating that it is modeled after a Joseph Klotz violin. To my eyes this looks like a late 1800s violin. This is a nicely made violin with high quality tone woods. It has a warm, mature voice suitable for all types of music.
